The “Nofy Maitso” house : a green dream come true

“Nofy Maitso” is a zero-waste house, dedicated to education for sustainable development.

WWF supports innovation and encourages innovative projects initiated by the youth. The Nofy maitso house is one such youth project supported by WWF Madagascar. Nofy maitso is a new house for sustainable development education and environmental initiatives by youth in Antananarivo.

“Think Green, Act Green, Build Green, Read Green, Buy Green” is the slogan of the house. Providing an example for others who wish to build sustainably, Nofy Maitso is an ecological house in which the furniture is made of recycled materials. It includes tires converted into comfortable sofas, former pallets changed into shelves in the eco-library…and even a toilet without water which transforms waste into electricity!

Nofy Maitso encourages the principle of the “four Rs” for the protection of the environment: reduce, repair, recycle and reuse.

Nofy Maitso is an ecological dream which has become a reality for many young people who care about the environment in the capital, as well as for organizations that work in conservation, like WWF.

“Acting in prime public space in the middle of downtown in the capital, Nofy Maitso is a huge opportunity for all of us to connect citizens of the capital to nature and to engage them in daily actions that benefit the planet,” explained Nanie Ratsifandrihamanana, director of WWF.

Come dream in green each Saturday beginning at noon, in the Antaninandro quarter. Children, adolescents and adults are welcome to participate in the free classes about cartoon drawing, painting, dance and green cooking.
