Women are now leading mangrove restoration!

The protection of mangroves? These extraordinary women have made it their commitment. Indeed, they are aware of the importance of mangroves in their daily life in the village or in more sustainable way.

They live in the village of Antanandahy, in the heart of Tsiribihina delta mangroves, a Malagasy Ramsar site in western Madagascar.

This is why they have founded associations which are leading reforestation of mangroves in the Tsiribihina delta. In this way, they ensure the survival of their village of Antanandahy. And they are very active!

One of them is Vololoniaina Victorine, health manager in the village and mother of four children. In the little time that remains, she devotes to planting mangroves. "It is not easy to plant mangroves with a child on the back (...) but it is our duty to protect them.” Victorine says. She is undeniably born a leader!
