Young Malagasy climate leaders - One for all and all for one!

The 15th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference Of Youth or COY15 took place in Antananarivo from 22 to 24 November for Madagascar.

Three intense days for the 102 participants from 12 regions of Madagascar! They exchanged and shared actions to address the effects of climate change in their respective localities. The event, which focuses on the theme: "Your vision of a sustainable Madagascar tomorrow", is initiated by the Indian Ocean Climate Network.

During the first day of Friday, "Innov city", a open session to the public, was the stage for several testimonies on innovations around the environment. Five young people from different associations presented their environmental  activities. An opportunity to raise public awareness towards climate change, its effects and the solutions to address it.

The COY took place in an atmosphere of workshops, exchanges of experiences, networking sessions, video projections on the environment and climate change. Participants were trained on climate negotiations and advocacy and were able to do simulations in COP on climate change (COP in my city).

To Vetsoniaina Fenosoa Nathalie, from the Scouts "the environment section is already part of our Scouting programme. Participating in the COY is a way for us to share and learn from young people who share our conviction in protecting nature. After these three days, we will be spokespersons for our community and be better equipped to effectively fight climate change."

The COY is an opportunity for young Malagasy people to add their expertise to address climate change, become models for a sustainable society and to participate in the vision of a sustainable Madagascar. "This is only the beginning," says Mirindra Rakotoarisoa, from the Indian Ocean Climate Network, "at the end of these three days of conferences, we will be climate leaders, leaders of positive change for the country. »
