International Mangrove Day - #SaveOurMangroves
Supported by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and their regional directorates, the celebrations were led by Madagascar National Park (MNP), civil society organizations including youth, and conservation organizations such as WCS, CI, Tany Meva and WWF.
In the Nosy Hara Park, Diana region, artistic awareness activities were organized for children. In Menabe, activists of the Mahery Youth Consortium in Morondava produced videos of testimonies on social networks. All the radio stations in Morondava simultaneously broadcast an information and awareness programme on International Mangrove Day on 26 July 2020. The speakers were from the state, the MIHARI network, Blue Ventures, USAID Mikajy, fishermen's groups and the WWF. Audiovisual broadcasts also in Maintirano, on TV Melaky and Radio Feon'ny Melaky FM 99.2.
The mangroves of Manambolo Tsiribihina, where Morondava and Maintirano are located, are the most extensive and intact in this region and are subject to rigorous conservation so that they can continue to provide ecological services.
See you on July 26, 2021!
