WWF Coastal Communities Initiative (CCI) report: "Scaling Toward a Healthy Ocean and Resilient Coastal Communities"

Coastal communities are among the main protectors of natural marine resources.

Coastal communities play a crucial role in the protection and sustainable management of the oceans, contributing to the implementation of concrete solutions and seeking ways to guarantee access to a healthy, well-managed sea for all. Their involvement is essential to preserve the future of our marine resources and ensure the well-being of future generations.
Coastal communities are also among those directly affected by the negative effects of environmental degradation. However, they are showing resilience in the face of this situation, and are demonstrating that effective solutions do exist.
This WWF Coastal Communities Initiative (CCI) report entitled "Scaling Toward a Healthy Ocean and Resilient Coastal Communities" highlights this.
It highlights the tangible impact of efforts around the world, and shows the environmental protection work being carried out by local people in the south-west Indian Ocean region.
The report contains testimonials showing the solutions proposed by grassroots communities and the work that has been done. An example of this is in Madagascar:
- the closure of octopus fishing to control pressure on the coral reef and improve living conditions for sea dwellers
- capacity building for national associations such as CNPE and MIHARI in sustainable blue economy, financial management, human rights-based procedures.
The data in this report demonstrate the effectiveness of the strategy put in place.
